One of the most attractive and controversial occultists of the 19th century. Prolific writer in Russian, French, and English, she has also aquired a great reputation of psychic.
She founded the Theosophical Society, in New York City, in 1875, and later moved its headquarters in Adyar, India. She was later to leave India, mainly because of the attacks of Christian missionaries, and travelled in several countries in Europe.
Her main work, THE SECRET DOCTRINE, has been a great source of inspiration for subsequent theosophical writers.
