Civilian Ceremonies are making such a part of the social life of all people, that they may be considered as a natural need for the social welbeing of any individual. Far from being upsolete, even in our century ceremonies are adapted to new circumstances: ceremonies of graduation, of taking the Oath of Office, Military ceremonies, Sport events, etc... Even the modern Olympic Games have their own Opening and Closing ceremonies.
At the beginning of the 20th century, a number of thinkers got the idea to use this natural need of all human beings, particularly in children, as an education tool. Baden Powell introduced the idea in his mouvement, although it was oriented to children interested in Nature and Outdoors. At the same time, another Englishman, friend of Baden Powell, started the Round Table as a mouvement to help children more interested in spiritual life.
The Round table ceremonies are not religeous. They are very simple, and may be performed by children and adults of all ages. Round table members belong to many different Religions and Cultures in the entire world and they try to live in harmony and tolerance. Several activities take place after the ceremonial work.
The members of the Round Table are:
Pages, from 5 to 9 years old, have JOY as quality;
Companions, from 8 to 13, practice FRIENDLYNESS;
Squires, from 12 to 17, practice HELPFULNESS and COURAGE;
Knights, older than 15, have RIGHTEOUSNESS as a goal.
